Schneider Electric Malaysia electric vehicle charging stations now at Genting Highlands Premium Outlets

Electrified vehicle charging infrastructure in Malaysia takes another step, with the launch of Schneider Electric Malaysia’s electric vehicle charging station in the Awana SkyCentral Transportation Hub at the Genting Highlands Premium Outlets retail centre.

The charging station is comprised of nine charging bays, each rated for 7.4 kW via a Type 2 socket outlet, which Schneider Electric Malaysia says will provide 40 km of battery range from a four-hour charge. The facility is currently a single-phase setup, though provisions are in place for upgrading to a three-phase setup to accommodate 22 kW charging, the company said.

Located at Level B1 between pillars B5 and C5, the charging station is accessible to the general public 24 hours a day, seven days a week, available to use free of charge; standard parking charges apply at the Genting Highlands Premium Outlets parking facility. The Awana SkyCentral Transportation Hub houses the Awana Bus Terminal, which serves Resorts World Genting and the Awana SkyWay cable car system.

“We can confidently say that many of our customers drive premium urban vehicles which have petrol-electric versions these days, and there is a need to have (EV charging facilities) at the carpark,” said Resorts World Genting vice president of hotel operations Ganesan Subramaniam. The transportation hub carpark averages 50% occupancy during weekdays, with weekends and public holidays seeing ‘over 100%’, he added.

Schneider Electric’s EVLink Smart Wallbox charging solution comes with built-in energy management function that enables efficient charging and responsible use of energy without compromising charging performance.

Lack of reliable public charging is one of the top reasons for consumers not buying electric vehicles, while major mobility stakeholders, particularly fleet operators and auto manufacturers need access to a secure and reliable EV charging infrastructure that will reduce costs and accelerate time to market if they are to invest in EVs.

“We believe the future of energy is decentralized, decarbonised and digitized, and electro-mobility is essential for the world to reduce carbon emissions,” said Christel Galbrun-Noel, President, Schneider Electric Automotive and Mobility Segment.

“We see that electro-mobility is key to achieving this future, but adoption is slower than needed. Additional regulations, efficient infrastructure, and reduced costs to drive consumer demand are essential if we are to reach the tipping point,” he added.

Schneider Electric EcoStruxure for e-mobility is a complete End-to-end EV charging infrastructure

To accelerate the worldwide adoption of EVs as a sustainable mobility form, Schneider Electric has launched EcoStruxure for eMobility, the world’s only end-to-end EV charging infrastructure. Schneider Electric EcoStruxure for eMobility is aimed, among others, at fleet operators who need reliable and cost-effective charging solutions, auto manufacturers who want to foster EV adoption by giving their customers reliable access to charging facilities and utilities and charging point operators who also need to develop new business models that can accommodate EV growth.

Schneider Electric EcoStruxure for eMobility stands out in that it covers the entire EV charging value chain, from audit and consulting, to grid and microgrid management, and smart charging stations. It offers giving operators increased sustainability through minimized emissions and reduced energy consumption, while lowering CapEx and OpEx by more than 30 per cent. The solution, under the umbrella of Schneider Electric EcoStruxure IIoT platform and architecture, improves visibility, cost control, efficiency and resilience, while reducing energy consumption.
