Keira Costelloe Introducing A New Studio Single: Never Going Back
November 12, 2020 – Keira Costelloe is a singer and songwriter with a passion for catchy yet atmospheric pop music. Her sound has a fresh modern feel, but at the same time, it is also warm and impactful, giving the audience a more personal listening experience. Recently, the artist announced the release of a fantastic new studio single titled “Never Going Back.” This song immediately strikes me for the amazing quality of the production and recording, and the songwriting feels personal and relatable, and it is refreshingly far removed from the usual cliches of the genre.

The bass-heavy yet crisp sound of the instrumental makes me think of some of the best Billie Eilish tracks, and Keira’s voice also has some similarities with the latter, in terms of how intimate and up-close it sounds. The song’s introductory part unfolds for about 35 seconds, in which Keira’s beautiful vocals are accompanied by a minimalistic electronic soundscape and some lush synthesizer landscapes adding more depth and space to the song. The sound of the instrumentals is indeed really great, with beats that are very sonically balanced, offering a unique portrait between next-level power and groundbreaking detail. There is a cool electronic drum break before the song eventually ramps up, acquiring louder dynamics and even more depth. There is a cool choppy synth with a lovely modulated effect, perfectly interacting with the slow yet dense drum pattern.
“The vocals soar on top of the instrumental parts, without ever overpowering the mix and without ever being overpowered by it. This might seem like an obvious thing in a song but achieving this kind of balance when there is so much happening is really not easy, and it really requires so many skills, not only in terms of production but also in terms of musical chops and execution. Clocking in at slightly over the 3 minutes mark, what I love about this release is that it has a pretty concise length. I am a big subscriber to the idea that a catchy song should never be too long and that it is better to leave the audience wanting more rather than tiring them with lengthier tracks. 3 minutes or so is a perfect length for a song like this because it gives Keira the opportunity to showcase her lyrical and vocal skills, while the instrumental also offers a very varied approach, that has some excellent dynamics.
“This is definitely not a “one-color” song, but rather a fantastic composition that feels like a true musical rollercoaster. What makes this track quite special is the fact that the mood and feel of this song are unapologetically pop, but at the same time, there is much more to it than that. The production is intelligent and diverse, bringing a wide range of beautiful sounds to the table and never overpowering the audience, but rather complementing the listening experience with something different and new.
