Community First: What TorHoerman Law Is Doing To Give Back To Their St. Louis and Southern IL Communities.

For more than a decade, TorHoerman Law has dedicated themselves to providing exceptional legal services for individuals who have suffered a personal injury and exceptional support to the communities they call home. This community-focused mindset is a pillar of the firm. From their annual Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway, to their college scholarship programs, a campaign to help end distracted driving, yearly winter coat drive, and various other philanthropic activities, TorHoerman Law has made it clear that the well-being of their communities is the firm’s top priority.

Just a few weeks ago, Torhoerman Law completed the 7th annual Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway in Alton, IL. This initiative is especially close to home for the head of TorHoerman Law’s personal injury litigation team, Eric Terry. Having grown up in Alton, Eric does not recall a Thanksgiving without a turkey on the table. So, when the firm learned that 12% of Madison County, IL families have difficulty getting consistent meals, they decided to focus their efforts on providing a Thanksgiving turkey to such families. Though the first year was a smaller-scale event, they were able to give away over 200 turkeys. Soon, word of their endeavors spread, and with the help of other local businesses and community members, they’ve given away 4,600 turkeys to date.

Despite the impact of COVID-19 and social distancing orders, the firm distributed 600 turkeys to local families for Thanksgiving this year. By implementing social distancing measures and a new drive-through pick-up process, TorHoerman Law was able to provide a safe, but still fun, environment for community members to pick up their turkey.

“We knew that this year, more than ever, it was important to support our neighbors in need,” said Terry.

The annual Turkey Giveaway is not the only way that TorHoerman Law gives back to its community. From the firm’s yearly college scholarship writing contest to their campaigns against distracted driving, TorHoerman Law focuses their efforts on providing resources and education to the youths of the area.

“Being both parents and car accident lawyers has led us to start the End Distracted Driving Campaign,” Terry shares. “We hold an annual scholarship contest that asks students to discuss distracted driving dangers in order to initiate that conversation.”

THL also offers distracted driving presentations to schools, offices, and other community organizations. Another resource for the community includes the yearly winter coat drive, an initiative created to make sure that children and teens in the community have the proper winter attire (including coats, boots, scarves, and gloves) to battle harsh midwest winters.

Their charitable focus is not limited to the younger generation of Missouri and Illinois. In fact, one of TorHoerman Law’s greatest charitable endeavors is their sponsorship of the Main Street Community Center, which focuses on caring for the elderly that may be without nearby familial support. The center ensures that the elderly community is looked after, from meals to transportation, medical bills, and more. Each year, the organization puts on a trivia night of which THL is the primary sponsor.

The firm is always looking for new opportunities to give back. The TorHoerman Law Employee Non-profit Foundation was founded with the goal of utilizing company resources to benefit the communities they live and work in through various philanthropic efforts. According to Eric Terry, 80% of the firm’s staff was born and raised in the area, so their unwavering care and support for their neighbors should come as no surprise.

“Serving the community that has been supportive of us has always been important for us at THL. It isn’t just where we work, it’s where we live,” says Terry.

Going into 2021, TorHoerman Law is planning on expanding their local philanthropic efforts by adding additional scholarships and planning more charitable actions within their St. Louis, MO, Edwardsville, IL, and Chicago, IL communities. The firm also hopes to broaden the scope of their philanthropy, finding new ways to support those in need.

In a year that has been plagued by uncertainty and loss, TorHoerman Law seeks to provide a beacon of hope and light in their neighborhood. Although we cannot know what 2021 will hold, TorHoerman Law will remain a resource for the injured and a source of support for those in need.
