“Catarina born with cerebral palsy – a neurological condition; is among the elite Paralympics athletes in the world.”

Cranford, NJ – April 26, 2021 – A Cerebral palsy athlete, high school student, and teen author Catarina Guimaraes has recently reached the qualifying standard for the Summer Paralympics. She is still challenging to make the Team USA roster by competing in the Work Para Grand Prix, consisting of 100m, 200m, and long jump events

Catarina Guimaraes has Cerebral palsy (CP), a set of disorders that affect one’s ability to move and sustain balance and posture. Cerebral palsy is the most common motor infirmity in childhood. Cerebral is related to the brain, while palsy means weakness or difficulties with using the muscles.

Cerebral palsy occurred through abnormal brain growth or damage to the growing brain that disturbs a person’s ability to control her muscles.

The signs of Cerebral palsy differ from one person to another. A person with severe Cerebral palsy might need to use special tools to walk or might be unable to move her feet at all and may need all-time care. A person with mild Cerebral palsy, on the other hand, might walk a bit awkwardly but may not need exceptional help. Cerebral palsy does not worsen over time; however, the exact symptoms can adjust over a person’s lifespan.

Catarina wants to improve her current national records with improved performances in the World Para Gran Prix, and she wants to use this qualifying feat as an opportunity to improve her speed, reduce transition times, and work on the last seconds of the run. She is working hard to ensure that her effort proves that she is worthy of the Team USA roster for the summer Paralympics

Catarina quotes, “When you set your mind on a goal, the only thing preventing you from achieving that goal is you…”

“Obstacles are made to be conquered…”

“Together, we can do this… Daily Stretching, Daily Therapy, Daily Affirmations that yes we can, and nothing can stop us”.

Catarina Guimaraes has proven she is among the elite Paralympics athletes in the world. She is overjoyed to play a small part in boosting her career with more personal records and achieving her summer Paralympics Team USA dreams.
