New Memoir on Mental Illness Reveals Dangers of Unmanaged Bipolar I Disorder
SOSO, MS – April 26, 2021 – A psychotic episode landed author Claire Ishi Ayetoro front page coverage in the Laurel Leader Call, a local newspaper, in 2014 with the headline “Naked Woman Leaps Off I-59 Bridge After Rescue.” Seven years later, I Hear the Black Raven: A Petite Memoir addresses Ayetoro’s side of the story, her take on psychosis, and advice on how to live life to the fullest with Bipolar I disorder. No topic is off-limits as she paints portrait after portrait of her triumphs and her battles with bipolar disorder, religiosity, and that ever elusive cure-all: love. This memoir will be released during May for Mental Health Awareness Month.
“I wrote this memoir through the lens of mental illness as the vehicle for getting my message across. I believe it is more than a ‘mental illness memoir,’” says Ayetoro. “At its core, it is about how everyone faces challenges in life. No one gets to choose what challenges are bestowed upon them, but we can all choose how we face them; that makes all the difference. Those who are facing mental illness are not alone, and those who are dealing with all manner of life issues are not alone. I aim to get that message across through my stories.”
Ayetoro is founder of a media/merchandise company (Equal Age) with the goals of raising awareness about human equality, bringing attention to the intrinsic value of a human, and creating community among creatives and leaders for social change.
“Claire describes her manic episodes more vividly than anyone I’ve ever read!” – Deborah A. Lott, Author of “Don’t Go Crazy Without Me”
