Dallas, TX – June 17, 2024 – Kinney Lee Fields, a South Dallas native with a diverse background in politics, hospitality, and community activism, has been appointed as the Front of the House Manager for 9NINE Kitchen and Lounge, a new restaurant concept owned by NFL player Matt Judon. The restaurant, located in the heart of Downtown Dallas, aims to bring a fresh and exciting dining experience to the city, blending high-quality cuisine with top-notch service.

Fields, who is the son of the late Congressman Clay Smothers, brings a unique blend of experience and leadership to his new role. As a former candidate for Dallas County Commissioner, Fields narrowly missed winning the Republican primary in 2016, losing by just 2 percent to challenge incumbent John Wiley Price. Despite the electoral setback, Fields remains a prominent figure in the community, known for his advocacy and efforts to uplift young people.

In addition to his political pursuits, Fields is the author of the book “Respect Perception and Control,” which focuses on encouraging young boys to dress respectfully and avoid sagging their pants. He founded the group “Don’t Sag Your Pants,” which has distributed free belts at the annual Dallas Mayor’s Back to School Fair. Fields’ commitment to mentoring youth is a cornerstone of his career, and he looks forward to bringing this passion to his role at 9NINE Kitchen and Lounge.

“I am excited about the opportunity to lead at 9NINE Kitchen and Lounge and to continue my mission of mentoring young people,” said Fields. “Growing up in South Dallas, I understand the challenges many young black kids face. I want to show them that with hard work and dedication, they can achieve great things, even in the restaurant industry. It’s about setting an example and providing opportunities for the next generation.”

Fields’ extensive experience in the hospitality industry includes his previous role as Front of the House Manager for Kitchen and Kocktails by Kevin Kelley. His military service as a former United States Army National Guard soldier and his identity as a young black Republican add to the multifaceted persona that Fields embodies. His leadership at 9NINE Kitchen and Lounge is anticipated to not only enhance the restaurant’s reputation but also inspire the staff and patrons alike.

As he takes on this new challenge, Fields also has his sights set on the future, with plans to run for office again. Leveraging his background, including his book and his father’s legacy as an outspoken congressman against forced busing in the 1970s, Fields aims to generate positive buzz around his name and continue to impact his community positively.
