Home Turf Landscapes and Pool Contractor of Virginia Names New General Manager
Tappahannock, Va. – HomeTurf Inc. is proud to announce James Stringer as the company’s new General Manager. This is a newly created position within the eastern Virginia-based landscape management and swimming pool contractor company. “We are excited to have James on our team of professionals,” commented Robbie Shackelford, the company’s Owner. The move comes in response to significant business growth and increased customer demand for custom outdoor living and swimming pool projects.
In the General Manager role, Stringer will oversee day-to-day business operations at both the Tappahannock and Williamsburg locations that service a wide swath of the eastern region of the state including Richmond, Fredericksburg, and Newport News. He will drive business and financial plan performance, focus on increasing sales, and deliver on key performance indicators (KPIs) in the realms of safety, customer retention, growth, and profit. Stringer is well familiar with the Home Turf Landscapes business, having joined the 25-person company in 2019 as Project Manager responsible for projects ranging from $5K – $400K in value. Stringer’s extensive industry background spans more than 20 years with experience in project management, financial management and small business ownership.
Home Turf Landscapes owner and acting GM Robbie Shackelford notes that this personnel move is part of a planned business evolution. With revenue growth of 50% in 2020 and a plan to repeat that increase in 2021, Shackelford recognized the need to better distribute responsibilities. Simply put, he was wearing too many hats. Stringer’s strong understanding of business basics and demonstrated growth during his 18-month tenure with the company made him a natural contender for this position, although not the sole candidate.
“It was important to me that we conduct a thorough search to ensure the right fit,” noted Shackelford of the recruitment process which included both internal and external candidates. “A key component to this company is culture, and during the interview process James was able to demonstrate that, in addition to his operations and business expertise, he truly understands and embraces the Home Turf culture.” The business owner shared that Home Turf Landscapes culture is centered around four core values: Growth (individual and company), Relationships, Profit and the Greater Good.

Stringer will officially step into the General Manager role on February 22, 2021 while also ensuring a smooth transition from his Project Manager responsibilities and actively participating in the recruiting process for his replacement.
